Parking Norfolk Street

Once again, there are now further parking restrictions in the Vic hall area, as if the extortionate increase in costs of the underground park was not enough. A visit to Sheffield theatres now poses quite serious logistic problems and it is even worse for orchestra members with bulky instruments. The tempting ‘loading only” bays are attracting tickets (Igot one the other day) even though they are never used for loading at that time of night. It seems that the council are not bothered about the use of valuable town centre facilities in the evenings, which is odd because I find that in many other areas their parking and traffic strategy is intelligent and helpful.

I think that Sheffield City Council should allocate special parking for the Victoria Hall on Tuesday evenings for those who have large instruments to carry and especially if you are an older member or disabled in any way. Perhaps the MP for Sheffield or the Lord Mayor should be contacted and for Sheffield Philharmonic to notify the council and MP etc of those orchestra members who I feel should be given priority parking, especially the double base players in the way of a free parking bay for Tuesday evenings. Sheffield should be very proud of their Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and make a way forward for members to park easily for their rehearsals. Perhaps free parking in the underground/multi-storey opposite for all those who travel by car for rehearsal. I wish the orchestra all the very best in the future and especially those who find parking difficult and expensive, no one should have to stop attending because of difficulties and/or obstacles of this kind. Sheffield needs to promote and support the SPO.
